15 Things That Annoy the Crap out of Adults with ADHD

By Terry Matlen, LMSW

Here are some things that annoy me – and maybe you:

  1. Being interrupted while I’m talking. As if I’ll remember where I left off. Riiight.
  2. Giving me driving directions by telling me to go north for a mile, turn right in 50 yards, then make a left just past the gas station; continue until you see the stop sign, then head east for another 10 miles. Ok, so this was before GPS. Still…the memories haunt me.
  3. Following a recipe. Period.
  4. Trying to follow a recipe while your loved one is- in hearing distance- (insert: watching TV, listening to music, rustling the newspaper, or worse: talking to you).
  5. When someone asks you to divert your attention from whatever activity has you hyper-focused on, to something extremely lame (in your opinion), like why was the electricity just turned off?
  6. Being invited to a formal wedding. Wait: any wedding. The best one I ever went to had attendees in blue jeans. Unfortunately, no one told me it was informal.
  7. Restaurant menus with 300 different options to choose from.
  8. Disney. The long wait lines are more painful than the COVID vaccine. Note: I am PRO VACCINE! Just to be clear….
  9. People who talk at you, not to you or with you.
  10. Getting those damn Grammarly popups while I’m trying to write a newsletter.
  11. People who walk too slow (not including those who must, due to medical conditions.
  12. People who don’t ask me what I do but talk my husband’s head off about his vocation (he’s in medicine).
  13. Being asked to volunteer at school when you NEED those quiet hours away from your child to calm yourself down. You can’t win: if you say yes, you’re miserable. If you say no, you feel guilty. Luckily, my kids are grown, but I remember those days.
  14. Trying SO HARD to get somewhere on time only to find everyone rolling in 15 minutes after you. Or later.
  15.  Forgetting to buy toilet paper when you go to the grocery store to buy toilet paper.

See what’s going on now there: www.PowerfulWomenWithADHD.com or jump down and read what I’m offering and some new cool stuff coming up.

Please take this VERY short survey– have your voice heard- tell me what you want and need: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DQGY9RZ.
